Brussels
In 2004, Cityspace and Clear Channel Belgium joined with the Centre d´Informatique pour la Region Bruxelloise (CIRB) and public sector network solution providers IRISnet in partnership with France Telecom and Telindus, to deliver one of mainland Europe´s first outdoor broadband infrastructures on behalf of the Region Bruxelles-Capital (RBC).
iPlus Bruxelles offers free, easy-to-use public service information; transport timetables, housing support, free email and webcam ´videomail´ services, games, weather reports, City maps and Le Soir news among its raft of useful and essential offerings.
In parallel, iPlus Bruxelles offers access to StreetNet, the Cityspace Wi-Fi Network. This provides high speed internet access for everyone via laptops, handheld computers (PDAs) and any device normally used to connect the internet. Citizens, mobile workers and visitors can access wireless broadband from these ´hotspots´, which will ultimately roll out across the City for a truly comprehensive outdoor broadband service.
Working with RBC and their partners has been a very exciting project for Cityspace. Combining the two streams of digital solutions; iPlus Points for on-street information provision and StreetNet for wireless broadband access, at the heart of the European Union, to give a truly valuable service to this most discerning audience, is a landmark for the advent of outdoor broadband.
