Ticketing contract marks third phase of Cityspace collaboration with award-winning Kent Thameside Fastrack

BRT-UK, Cambridge, 3 December 2007 – Cityspace has been awarded a key contract for introduction of off-bus ticketing to the Fastrack Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme, part of the multi-million pound Kent Thameside regeneration area within the Thames Gateway.

As an established technology partner of Kent County Council, Cityspace equipment is deployed along the BRT route between Dartford and Gravesend, including along the new route section serving Ebbsfleet International Station which opened earlier this month. Reflecting confidence in the digital transport network already in place, award of the off-bus ticketing contract for Fastrack Route B makes the Kent Thameside Fastrack project the first to deploy all three key streams of the Cityspace Transport offering: interactive journey planning, real-time information broadcast services and off-bus ticketing.

Cityspace ticketing presents a totally unique combination of proven touch screen technology for ease-of-use; with coin, note and Chip & PIN payment capability and the system issues a full range of operator tickets and passes. The contract will deliver a fully managed customised network of 23 high quality hardware touch screen units operated via the Cityspace wireless backhaul which supports the transport network.

“This procurement process generated much interest but we concluded that the Cityspace offer presents the best off-bus ticketing solution for this crucial BRT corridor” said David George, Kent Thameside’s Fastrack Project Manager. “The easy-to-use, interactive touch screen technology designed and managed by Cityspace has undoubtedly already contributed to passenger uptake of Fastrack services. I am delighted that we can now continue to work with Cityspace to further enhance the Fastrack experience by speeding up boarding times through application of this system for ticketing.”

“Allowing passengers to easily buy tickets at their convenience helps to give control back to the public and directly supports Fastrack’s objectives of creating a sustainable community,” commented Guy Wolfenden, Director Cityspace Transport.

“Fastrack presents us with an opportunity to showcase the three key Cityspace transport streams; interactive journey planning, real-time information broadcast services and off-bus ticketing. This unique integration of our transport services will clearly demonstrate the value to operators of a network dedicated to improving the passenger waiting experience.”

The off-bus ticketing network is due to go live in March 2008.
