Cityspace announces free access to real-time, National Rail Enquiries across nation-wide network of on-street information terminals

London, 26th March 2007 - Cityspace Transport, a division of Cityspace, a leading provider of urban digital networks, today announces the availability of National Rail Enquiries (NRES) real-time rail information across its network of more than 500 on-street information and transport terminals in the UK.

In a new agreement with Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), Cityspace Transport has secured the rights to offer the country's most comprehensive, real-time rail information services from its free to access, on-street information terminals.

NRES is the UK's most widely used telephone and on-line travel resource and this agreement effectively extends access to the real-time train timetables by delivering it through new channels to the public at the point of need.

"The travelling public face an information gap from the time they leave their home or office to their arrival at the station," comments Guy Wolfenden, Director Cityspace Transport.

"We are directly addressing this gap by providing people with the NRES updates on train departures and known disruptions through our national network of public access terminals, conveniently located in places where people can adjust their travel plans or make alternative arrangements."

It is now widely accepted that the provision of real-time information improves public confidence of using public transport. This initiative is taking real-time information delivery to the next stage - with the aim of providing the public with real-time updates and planning tools at every stage of their journey.

"NRES is extremely valuable to the travelling public and we see it as essential to providing a comprehensive journey-planning public service, at the point of need," concludes Wolfenden. "This agreement with ATOC goes a long way to bridging the information gap and so encouraging the take up of public transport to meet the government's transport agenda."

"Over the last ten years Britain has had the fastest growing railway network in Europe and carried over 1.1 billion passengers in 2006. The better and more convenient the information, the more we can encourage rail usage and help the travelling public at large," said National Rail Enquiries Chief Executive, Chris Scoggins.

"We believe the Cityspace network of information terminals to be ideally placed to deliver the value of rail information direct to the public, where it's needed."

Working in partnership with more than 50 UK local authorities and numerous transport operators and PTEs, Cityspace Transport has the technology and proven track record to deliver an integrated rail/bus information, ticketing, security and transactional service to meet the burgeoning transport agenda.

End.
