Wirral unveils the ultimate visitor service in time for Golf Open
24 July 2006
Cityspace and New Mind deliver first phase of Merseyside on-street visitor service network in the Wirral, funded by The Mersey Partnership
London, 24 July 2006 - Cityspace, the UK's leading provider of urban digital networks, today announces the launch of a ground-breaking tourist information service available through its network of iPlus Points in the heart of the Wirral just in time to assist the 200,000-plus visitors to the Golf Open over the last four days.
Funded by The Mersey Partnership, to support its drive to promote tourism and increase visitor numbers to the Liverpool City Region, Cityspace has worked with New Mind, an award winning new media consultancy to deliver a comprehensive, intuitive visitor information service available on the street, initially at three iPlus Points in major pedestrian hubs.
We're thrilled to have this valuable service up and running in time for the Open says Martin King, Director of Tourism at The Mersey Partnership.
There could have been no greater test for the service than these four days; we see it as playing an important role in helping visitors to maximise their stay in Merseyside and, more candidly, in encouraging the return of satisfied customers!
Ultimately, we view it as a critical mechanism to delivering our tourism goals under the Objective One programme for Merseyside.
The visitor application was conceived and built by Cityspace and New Mind taking a 'ground up' approach to deliver the definitive tourism service tailored to any UK tourism need. It features intuitive touch-screen content, including: my guide, what's on, explore, eating out, where to stay, today in the Wirral and much more.
The visitor portal will be displayed on the welcome screen of the iPlus Points at the Birkenhead interchange, the Wirral Country Visitor Park and the Port Sunlight Visitor Centre. It presents a valuable addition to the raft of other services featured, including council information, journey planning, Web Search from Yahoo! free email, BBC News and Sport and a mapping and print out facility.
We're delighted to be working with TMP on this exciting project, says Mark Collin , UK Development Manager, Cityspace.
Our collaboration with New Mind has helped us to create a whole new benchmark in interactive information services, pliable to adapt to any visitor service need, from hotels to the largest regional tourism authorities in Britain . We're looking forward to analysing the usage reports from during The Open the greatest test of the service yet!
End.
