Do Outdoor Broadband Services from Cityspace help Towns and cities to reach 2005 e-Government Targets?

Cityspace services do help with delivering wider availability of e-services. Independent research, showed that approaching 50% of users of iPlus Points had no other access to the Internet. This demonstrates the potential of an on-street network to reach out to wider demographic groups.

Can content services be specific to the physical location of an iPlus Point?

All services which support localisation can be adapted to deliver their content in a form based on the position of an iPlus Point or Network. There are many such services already available as part of the iPlus solution.

Do local authorities have to organise the supply and payment of power or telecoms to the locations?

Costs will be agreed as part of the commercial arrangements of the agreement. Cityspace will handle all quotes, liaison etc.

Is planning permission required for the installations?

No. As a kiosk is a structure, planning permission is required for its erection. But planning permission is granted under the provisions of Class A in Part 12 of Schedule 2 to the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 which permits the erection or construction by a local authority of, amongst other things, information kiosks. For the purpose of this consent, erection by a local authority may be taken to include works actually undertaken by another person on behalf of, or with the consent of, the local authority.

Can services from existing council websites be directly fed onto an iPlus Network?

Yes. The majority of services and information that are delivered on iPlus Points come from existing websites. Part of Cityspace's service package is to advise and provide support in amending web pages so they will be suitable for the iPlus touch screen interface.
